Republican National Convention Updates

Whatever your political persuasion, it’s exciting that the Republican National Convention will be held in downtown Cleveland in July 2016.
- What will hosting this prestigious event mean for the city?
- What is being done to get ready?
- How will local businesses be affected?
Michael Mulhall, vice president of partnerships for Destination Cleveland, will bring us up to date on how Northeast Ohio is preparing for this impactful event.
Destination Cleveland is Cuyahoga County’s convention and visitors bureau. They are a private non-profit organization whose mission is to drive economic impact and stimulate community vitality for Greater Cleveland through leisure and business travel.
Mr. Mulhall joined Destination Cleveland in 2012 and is charged with overseeing a team in charge of recruiting partners and spotting synergistic opportunities.
Before joining the organization, he spent 11 seasons with the Cleveland Indians, most recently as the senior director of ticket sales. Before that, Mulhall spent more than 10 years in the theme park industry, including time as a general sales manager and marketing director for Six Flags.
If you want to prep for the Lake Communicators meeting, here’s an excellent resource about the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee, the non-partisan nonprofit that is responsible for organizing, hosting and funding the convention.
Its mission is to promote Northeast Ohio, ensure Cleveland is best represented, and lessen the burden of local governments in hosting the convention.
Democratic National Convention here in 2020? We can always hope. . .
